Kirkgate Art Project

Kirkgate Art Project Year Four

The activities

  • working with Celia Burbush, who specialises in community art and painting
  • A series of workshops emphasising local skills and histories (eg paper-making, dyeing, fabric construction), so that children take hold of skills associated with their local area. An alternative to starting with 'a great artist'.
  • We'll also look at examples of working people from the local area who, in their spare time, had some notable success as artists/writers/musicians. Again, showing that art can be a secondary pursuit that can be fulfillng. It would be great if children are able to share some of the artistic skills their family members may have in addition to their day jobs.
  • Working with artifacts and stories from Cockermouth Heritage group collection.
  • Introducing basic drawing and painting skills, through which the children can start to let their imagination explore stories associated with the artifacts.
  • Progress both the local craft skills and the drawing and painting skills to lead to finished artwork.

All Saints' Strava Club

Following on from our active half term challenge. The children, parents and staff manage to record 2537 miles through walking, running and biking. Children and parents can join our Strava team by downloading the app and searching All Saints'.

The aim is to provide some extra encouragement and motivation to keep our children and families active.

We will be setting new challenges.

Our first challenge is:

How far can you travel in 10 minutes? You can either choose to walk, run or bike. Once you have recorded your best 10 minute effort, you can challenge yourself every 1-2 weeks to beat your personal best.

Staying healthy and active during lockdown!

We now have our very own Strava activity club to encourage the children to stay active. Parents and children have downloaded the app with the aim of collectively covering as many miles as possible through: walking, running or cycling. So far we have over 60 members ready for half term.

This was firstly inspired by Captain Sir Tom, for each class to complete 100 miles collectively.

Free additional PE lessons at home! 5pm from Thursday 12th November -18th December every Monday-Friday.

This is just to inform you that the Youth Sports Trust (YST) will launch a free “After School Sport Club” this week following the ban on children’s sport outside school in the second lockdown. Similar to Joe Wicks “PE With Joe” during the first lockdown, the 30min club will take place 5.00pm each weekday and led by a member of the YST athlete mentor network, starting on Thursday with Jenna Downing, the world no.1 inline skater and 10 time British champion.

The After School Club will run for 5 weeks until December 18 and children can take part live by visiting the YST YouTube channel, you-tube.com/user/YouthSportTrust.

Please feel free to take part as much as possible.

Warm regards,
Mr Charters

Zoom Big Virtual Lunch

Year 4 enjoyed their big lunch on Zoom.

Year 4 Children had the chance to see their classmates on Friday 22nd May.

Everyone participated in:

  • a quiz from Reception to Year 4,
  • a scavenger hunt,
  • and school uniform dress up.

It was lovely to see everyone having a nice chat and enjoying themselves.

Well done to everyone who took part.

Hi Year 4,

Hope you’re all keeping safe and looking forward to Easter. Thank you to everyone who has put pictures up in their windows or chalked lovely messages on the paths, they really make me smile as I go on my daily exercise.

From Tuesday 14th of April Mr Charters and I will be taking it in turns to post work for you onto your Dojo account; all parents will have had an email sent to them to explain how to access your account, once you’ve completed the work you need to either take a photo of it or a screenshot and upload it on your account so we can mark it for you.

Have a great Easter

Hi,

The Maths Factor is a subscription site that is now free to use to support childrens' learning.  All you have to do is join (for free) then there are videos to watch and help available.

As with all the websites we tell you about there is so much traffic trying to use them at the same time that they are often overloaded, please bear with them and try them at a different time.

Joe Wicks Move Videos

The Body Coach, Joe Wicks, has teamed up with BBC Children in Need as their Schools Ambassador and they have created some excellent Move videos. These can be used in the classroom or at home. Great to use as they are simple and quick to pick up and can be used any time you and your children want to get moving and get energised!
