All Saints’ Intergalactic Gardening Club
Our Gardening Club has been running for many years but this year we are taking part in an amazing science experiment as Space Biologists. In partnership with the ESA (European Space Agency) and the Royal Horticultural Society, we are taking part in the ‘Rocket’ Seeds Project.
The aim is to discover how seeds that have been in a weightless environment, undergone space travel and been subject to cosmic radiation will grow compared to seeds that have remained on Earth. The British Astronaut, Tim Peake has been looking after the rocket seeds while they have been on the International Space Station and sent special messages of support to all the gardeners involved.
The rocket seeds were returned to Earth before the Easter holidays. Our Gardening Club are running the whole experiment themselves throughout this summer term including all the preparation, care of the plants and recording of data they have collected. So far it has been a wonderful success; our rocket seeds are growing!
