Volunteer Gardeners make a wonderful difference!

Our volunteers did a great job on Saturday, their enthusiasm and passion to help was amazing -  Mums and sons, Dads and sons and daughters, Nanna and grandchildren, Teachers, Caretaker and Eva (the dog)! 15+ came - despite the weather warnings, and in the end the day turned out to be a beautiful sunny Saturday morning!  Calm before the storm!

Comments from parents included:

"It was great to get outside and do activities with my children that benefited their school learning as well."

"It was great Mum and son time!"

"Thank you so much! It was a brilliant session and thank you for the invite and guidance!  It was really appreciated as I don't even have a garden!  So it was brilliant to have fun and learn with my kids."

Some main tasks we completed were:

  • We cleared, weeded and dug over the vegetable gardens.
  • Up cycling pallets and an old sink to make a fantastic mud kitchen.
  • Planting a blueberry bush with up-cycled used coffee beans granules.
  • We planted a blackcurrant bush with compost from the compost bins that staff and pupils had made from waste banana skins and old leaves.
  • We planted a raspberry bush.
  • Re potting pots around the school with bulbs - flowers for the bees.
  • Sweeping and clearing away the leaves from the front of the school.
  • Washing, cleaning and scrubbing the bicycle shed.
